John E. Sang

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that John Sang age 63, of Grand Forks, ND passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at his home, after recently being diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer.

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that John Sang age 63, of Grand Forks, ND passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at his home, after recently being diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer.

John E. Sang was born on September 14, 1948 in Warren, MN the son of Edwin and Adaline (Haupt) Sang. John grew up on a farm west of Karlstad, MN. He learned at an early age the value of hard work and the importance of family while developing a strong connection with nature and God. John attended the Thief River Falls Vocation Technical College with a degree in carpentry. In 1968 he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country with a tour of duty in Vietnam until 1970.

On December 12, 1970 he was united in marriage to Joyce Peterson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. John worked construction in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks for numerous Construction Companies. In 1972 he began employment at the Grand Forks Air Force Base in the Civil Service Engineering Department before retiring in 2002. As John would proclaim after retirement: "I work in between fishing and hunting trips." John was very active in Pheasant Forever and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundations.

"Big John" will be remembered by his immense inner and outer strength, his hearty laugh, his "Sangisms" and his heart of gold.

Cherished family members of John include his wife Joyce of Grand Forks, ND; children, James (Sara) Sang of Blaine, MN and Chris (Anne) Sang of Denver, CO; 2 grandchildren, Lily Anne and Ava Jean; siblings, Hubert (Wenda) Sang of Karlstad, MN, Ann Sang (Jerry Pietrzak) of Georgetown, TX, Mark Sang and Peter Sang both of Karlstad, MN along with numerous nieces and nephews.

John is predeceased in death by his parents Edwin and Adaline Sang.

Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 29, 2012 in Holy Family Catholic Church, 1018 18th Ave. S., Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM with a 12:00 noon Prayer Service on Saturday, January 28, 2012 in Holy Family Catholic Church.

Military Honors Conducted by: East Grand Forks American Legion, East Grand Forks, VFW and the North Dakota National Guard.

Interment: Calvary South Cemetery in spring of 2012.

Joyce - We are so sorry to hear about your husband, We never met him, but knowing you, I am sure he was a wonderful husband and father. We haven't seen you since June of 1977 at the hospital, but think of you often, Please take care and remember there are peope from the past that care and are praying with you and for you and your family. Sorry to hear about John,could not believe he left us this early, will have many memories of John around the campfire and his garage in the woods. Always told john to watch for those falling trees. We had good memories of John at Morris Point. Jeanne & Dennis Braaten
