Harlan F. Thompson, 69, Grand Forks, ND died Tuesday, Dec 6th, 2011 in his home due to respiratory failure.

Harlan Faye Thompson was born January 5th 1942 in Thompson ND, the 1st of five children to Frank and Serine (Ritland) Thompson. He graduated from Central high school, class of 1959. He then went onto North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND.

Harlan was united into marriage to Sharon Montgomery of Inkster, ND on Dec. 29th, 1961 in Sisseton, SD. Together they were blessed with two sons Jeff (Amber), Nampa, ID and Jay, Aetesia, CA.

He was a grain and potato farmer in the Reynolds area for many years. He later had a large snow removal business and owned a landscaping business known as "The Yard Builders". He was a great cook and loved to garden as well. He once had a garden that covered nearly 10 acres. Harlan was the cook at the mission for a time also. Everyone loved all those great meals. People also loved his pickled beets.

Harlan enjoyed a good game of smear and visiting. He could always talk your ear off. Every night he would make a call to his sister Carol to share his daily events.

She will really miss those calls.

Harlan is survived by his son, Jay, Aetesia, CA; daughter in-law, Amber Thompson; step grandchildren, Talon and Kaylene, Nampa ID; three Sisters, Carol (Sheldon) Skavlem, Thompson, ND, Adele McElroy, Anchorge AK and Sherryl Kvamme (Dan), Grand Forks, ND; brother, Kevin Thompson, Thompson ND; aunt, Marcy (Jim) Bubb, Alvarado, MN; many nieces and nephews; longtime friend, Lois Melland and her family Manvel ND. He especially enjoyed Jodi Jorde and her sons, Lionel and Bobby.

Harlan was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeff, Nampa ID; brother in law, Jim McElroy, Anchorage AK and nephew, Wade Skavlem, Reynolds, ND.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, December 12, 2011 in Calvary Lutheran Church of Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church.

Burial will be in Walle Lutheran Cemetery near Thompson, ND.

I will miss my dear friend Darlin Harlan, but i will always be grateful that I had the lucky opportunity to have known him. ~ Cynthia

Carol and Family, Jerry and I send our sincere sympathy in the loss of Harlan. I have known Harlan since our very young years and in these later years, Jerry worked with him during sugar beet hauling and he always enjoyed his sense of humor. May God give you strength and peace.
