Lester R. Jasmer, age 95 of Park River, formerly of Adams, ND, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River, ND.
Lester R. Jasmer was born April 26, 1916 to the late William and Clara (Troftgruben) Jasmer in Taude City, Montana. His family moved to the Adams-Edinburg where he attended country school and farmed. He joined the military on June 19, 1942 and met his wife Esther Smith while overseas. They were united in marriage on November 29, 1945 in London, England. Lester was honorably discharged on January 27, 1946 and the couple moved to rural Adams where they farmed and raised seven children. In the early 60's Lester quit farming and got into the excavation business. In 1969 he moved into Adams and bought his own backhoe and started Jasmer Excavation which he ran until his retirement in 1996. In July 2008 he moved to Park River, ND and in April 2011 he moved into the Good Samaritan Center of Park River.
Lester was a member of Adams Mountain Lutheran Church of Adams, ND, and the Qually-Dvorak American Legion Post #237. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing cards.
Lester is survived by his children: Helen Hensley, Channahon, IL; Diane (Warren) Fanger, West Jordon, UT; Shirley Cost, Orr, ND; Bill (Amy Chally) Jasmer, Adams, ND; Richard (Daniela) Jasmer, Mercogliano, Italy; sister: Lillian Iverson, East Grand Forks, MN, Inex (John) Dahlgren, Grand Forks, ND; brother Gordon Jasmer, Moorehead, MN; 15 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Esther, son Glenn Jasmer, daughter Clare Hanson, brothers: Everett, Alvin and Clarence Jasmer, sisters: Wilma Williams and Elenor Jasmer and infant grandson Kevin Jasmer.
Memorial Service will be Friday, September 16, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Adams Mountain Lutheran Church, Adams, ND.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service.
Military rites will be provided by the Qually-Dvorak American Legion Post #237 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
