Orlando A. "Jeep" Lebacken, 91, Grand Forks, died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at 4000 Valley Square - Wheatland Terrace.
Orlando Albin Lebacken was born to Chester and Annie (Nelson) Lebacken on Feburary 1, 1920 in Grand Forks. He attended several schools in the rural Reynolds area. Orlando served in the US Army from 1942-1946 during World War II, spending time in Japan, Italy, Germany, and Africa. Upon discharge from the military he returned to Reynolds where he was employed as a mechanic for Webers, and Braatens. Orlando Lebacken and Mae Bohm were united in marriage on November 17, 1951 at Reynolds. He later began his employment with the US Postal Service as Postmaster, and later as a rural mail carrier in the Reynolds-Buxton area, retiring in August, 1983. He also built residential homes in the area.
Orlando enjoyed woodworking, yard work, dancing, time at the lake, and visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by a son, Jay (Laurie) Lebacken, Thompson, ND; a daughter, Linda (Kevin) Olson, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Devin Lebacken, Tyler Lebacken, Whitney (Adam) Violette, Matthew Olson, Zachary Olson; a great-grandson, Tyson Violette; brother, LeRoy Lebacken, St. Cloud, MN; sisters, Iola (Arvin) Kvasager, Grand Forks, Marion (Kenneth) Kvasager, Grand Forks; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mae, who died July 29, 1986; a brother, Duane; sisters, Delores Kvasager, and Arleen Kvasager.
Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday July 28, 2011 in Sharon Lutheran Church, 1720 S. 20th St., Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5:30 to 7:30 with a 7:30 p.m. Prayer Service Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks and one hour prior to the service in the church.
Interment: Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks
Military Honors: will be provided by the North Dakota Army National Guard Funeral Honors, and East Grand Forks American Legion Post #157 and VFW Post #3817.
