Bonnie J. Hooey, age 81 of Grafton, ND passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND.
Bonnie Jean Shuley was born July 23, 1930 in Osnabrock, ND, the daughter of the late A.C. and Martha (Furnace) Shuley. She graduated from Osnabrock High School in 1948 and graduated from Mayville State Teacher's College. She taught in rural schools in North Dakota. Bonnie was united in marriage to Edward Hooey on July 21, 1951 in Langdon, ND. The couple moved to Grafton in 1961 and she started working for Kutz & O'Brien Plumbing and Heating as their bookkeeper. She retired in 2004 after 42 years of service. Edward passed away on July 15, 2007 and Bonnie moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home in 2008.
She was a member of the Grafton Assembly of God Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was active with the Grafton Curlers and the Grafton Bowling Leagues.
Bonnie is survived by her children: Larry Hooey, Grafton, ND; Rhonda (James) Bogan, Tulsa, OK; Kim (Jennifer) Hooey, Grafton, ND; two grandchildren: Lindsay and Mallory Martinson, Tulsa, OK; three great grandchildren: Iris and Aspen Stout and Emerson Jo Martinson; her sister Dorothy (Jerry) Gough, Fernley, Nevada. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Reuben Nelson, husband and two brothers: Clinton and John.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton.
Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service.
Inurnment will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery.
