Robert Mickels, age 79, of Northwood, ND formerly McVille, ND died July 18, 2011 at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood.
Robert Dale Mickels was born September 30, 1931 in McVille, ND, the son of Edgar and Josie (Dahl) Mickels. He grew up and attended school near McVille and grad-uated from McVille High School in 1949. Robert attended Mayville State from 1950- 1952. He entered the US Army on June 11, 1953 and served in Korea until he was honorably discharged on March 10, 1955. After being in the service he returned to Mayville State to complete his Education degree. Robert taught school in McVille, Drayton, Northwood, and Grand Forks, ND. He retired to the home farm in 1976. After leaving the farm he moved to McVille until health problems caused him to move into the Northwood Deaconess assisted living facility and recently the nursing home.
Robert is survived by his brothers: Ronald Mickels of Fargo, ND and Charles Mickels of Edmunds, WA; sisters: Betty Messner of Grand Forks, ND, Evelyn Robb of Elkhorn, WI and Carol (Nels) Loiland of Grand Forks, ND.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister Dorothy Kahlenbeck.
Funeral services for Robert will be held at the McVille Lutheran Church on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services in the church.
Military honors provided by the Ole Semling American Legion Post #135, McVille, ND and the National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team.
Interment will be in the Center Cemetery, rural McVille, ND.
Arrangements with the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home of McVille, ND.
