Theresa Johanna (Schmidtbauer) Tretter
Theresa Johanna (Schmidtbauer) Tretter, 83, of Erskine, MN, died peacefully with family by her side Tuesday morning, July 12, 2011, in the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, where she had been a resident since October, 2006.
Theresa was born on March 17, 1928 in Pierz, MN, the fourth of six children of the union of Joseph and Mary (Boser) Schmidtbauer. She grew up on the family farm near Pierz and attended country school. Theresa became a student nurse with the second class to enroll at the newly established Bethesda School of Nursing School in Crookston and received her degree as an LPN in 1949. On September 24, 1950 she was united in marriage to Norman George Tretter in Pierz. Together the couple raised four children: Tim, Randy, Jerry and Michelle and lived and farmed near Pierz. Theresa was employed as an LPN at the Villa Nursing Home in Pierz for many years. In 1972 the family moved to Crookston, where they owned and operated Tretter Coin Laundry. In 1975 they moved to Mentor, MN, where they farmed and also owned the Tastee Freeze Drive-in at Red Lake Falls, MN. Theresa worked as a Polk County home health aide in the Mentor area for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, playing games and especially going to garage sales. Theresa and Norman loved to travel and had many wonderful trips together over the years. Sadly, he died in January of 1991. Theresa then became a Senior Companion for Tri-Valley and endeared herself to so many people as she tended to their needs. In 2004 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and at that time moved to Fertile to live near her daughter, Michelle. Theresa was a dearly loved and cherished wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend. May God bless the memory of Theresa Johanna Tretter.
Family members include four children and their spouses: Timothy and Mary Kay Tretter of Pierz, MN, Randy and Peggy Tretter of Red Lake Falls, MN, Jerry and Margaret Tretter of Grand Forks, ND and Michelle and Peter Buchholz of Fertile, MN; nine grandchildren: Cassie Tretter, Carrie (Ken) Mull, Chad Tretter, Nathan Tretter, Jennifer (Edgar) Ferreira, Jody (Mike) Stangl, Stacy (Nic) Beggin, Cody Buchholz and Johanna Buchholz.
