Arthur O. Strand, 98, of Karlstad, Minnesota passed away at the Karlstad Healthcare Center on Saturday, July 9th, 2011.
Art was born on August 23, 1912, near Pelan in Roseau County, Minnesota to Charles and Margaret Strand. During his childhood his family lived in various places in the Pelan and Karlstad area, eventually purchasing a farm west of Karlstad in Deerwood Township in 1929.
Arthur was a warrior/farmer, fighting the elements as he worked his farm and then after retirement as he tended his garden, fighting the bugs, the weather and the weeds. He would happily share the bountiful harvest of his garden with his neighbors, friends and relatives. He always looked forward to having new potatoes before the 4th of July. He enjoyed teaching his nieces and nephews about farming when they visited from other parts of the country.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Selma and Junette; and three brothers, Carl, Edwin and Leonard.
He is survived by his sister, Martha (Mrs. Anders) Thorkildson of Karlstad and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, July 14th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Bethel Lutheran Church at Karlstad.
Interment will be in the Karlstad City Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church for two hours prior to the funeral service.
The Austin Funeral Home of Hallock is in charge of arrangements.
