Joyce Mattson, 92, of Hallock, Minnesota died at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Saturday, July 9th, 2011.
She was born on the family farm outside Hallock on April 18, 1919, the daughter of Cornelius and Mary (Palmgren) Nelson. Joyce graduated from Hallock High School and attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. On December 15, 1940, she married Vincent Mattson (also from Hallock) at Pontiac, Michigan. After the war, they returned to Hallock where they farmed and raised their family. Joyce was creative, energetic and made a wonderful home for her family. She had a bright smile for everyone and made good friends wherever she was. She loved to read and watch baseball and was very interested in family and local history. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and worked for several years at the Soil Conservation Service in Hallock. Joyce was especially proud of her 23 years as a volunteer at the DAC in Lake Bronson. Joyce and Vincent were married 62 years until Vincent's death in 2003.
Family members include a son, Michael (Patricia) Mattson of Hallock; a daughter, Katherine Mattson of St. Paul, MN and a grandson, Erick Mattson of Milwaukee, WI.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Kim in 1997; her parents and her sister.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, July 15th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Hallock.
Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock.
Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service.
The Austin Funeral Home of Hallock is in charge of arrangements.
