Mildred Evelyn Olson of Roseau passed away on July 7, 2011 at the LifeCare Roseau Manor at the age of 94.
Mildred was born on November 15, 1916 in Stafford Township of Roseau County, Minnesota to Mary (Roseen) and Peter O. Nelson. She grew up on the family farm and attended the #52 East school. She and Lawrence Olson were married on December 19, 1936 in Roseau. Together, they farmed small grain and cattle in Stafford Township and raised their ten children. They were attenders at the Roseau Baptist Church.
Mildred enjoyed her life on the farm and her homemaking duties that accompanied it. She loved gardening, canning, picking blueberries and raspberries. She will be remembered for her genuine concern for others, her hard-work ethic and her generous and patient spirit. Her direction in life always involved serving other people.
She is survived by her children, Gale (Carol) Olson of Roseau, Beverly Ringsak of White Bear Lake, MN, Sharon (Roger) Geroy of Moorhead, MN, Joan (Gary) Erickson of Badger, Kay (David) Skime of Roseau, Dawn (Daryle) Hamlin of Apple Valley, MN, Marianne (Dana) Byfuglien of Roseau, Muriel (Tim) Fevold of Roseau, Jan (Mark) Harris of Alexandria, MN and Julie (David) Verworn of Warroad; 34 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth (Clayton) Erickson of Roseau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence in 2003; and siblings, Oscar, Willie, Albert, Emil, Alfred, Selma, Alice, Edith, Marie and Della; great-grandsons, Jake and Christian.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 9th at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church in Roseau.
Visitation will be 6-8 PM on Friday at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Interment will be at the Bethel-Stafford Cemetery.
