Elmer G. Barker, 74, of Cando, ND passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Towner County Living Center in Cando.

Elmer G. Barker was born on October 25, 1936 in Towner County, ND, the son of Hubert and Pearl (Dingman) Barker. He graduated from Cando High School and attended Mayville State College. He was united in marriage to Diane Peterson on April 14, 1956 in Cando, ND.

Selling cars was Elmer's passion. He began his career by selling for Crume-Nash in Cando, ND. He eventually bought into Northern Motors of Cando and later sold for a car dealership in Rolla, ND. Most recently he was with D & B Motors of Langdon, ND. One of the first cars Elmer sold is at the Hawks Museum in Wolford, ND, and the last was sold from his hospital bed. His dedication to customer service was recognized through a personal letter from Henry Ford II in 1971, but more importantly his dedication will be remembered by the many area customers he served. Elmer was also a member of the Elks, Cando Lutheran Church, National Guard and served on the Cando Lutheran Church Board.

Elmer is survived by his wife: Diane Barker of Cando, ND and daughter: Teri (Paul) Semph of Cologne, MN.

Preceding him in death were his son: Rick Barker; parents; and a sister: Francis Stevens.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Cando Lutheran Church in Cando, ND.

Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando.
