William R." Bill" Olson, Jr., 88 of Langley, OK and formerly of Grand Forks, ND passed away June 8, 2011 in Fairland, OK.
William Raymond Olson was born March 19, 1923 in Grand Forks, ND the son of William Olson, Sr. and Agnes (Hannah) Olson. He was educated in Grand Forks and during the Depression served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He entered the United States Marine Corps on February 25, 1943 at Minneapolis, MN. During World War II, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre at Okinawa, Guadalcanal and Tarawa. He was honorably discharged from military service on February 26, 1946 at Parris Island. He returned to Grand Forks and was employed as a salesman delivering milk for Bridgeman Creameries. Later, he was employed as sales manager with Dakota Sales. He retired after 30 years at the age of 62.
William married Inez Marie Pauls on August 31, 1946 in Grand Forks, ND. They resided in Grand Forks and were married for 25 years. Inez preceded him in death in 1971. William married Glenda Holto on February 24, 1973 in Mendenhall Presbyterian Church, East Grand Forks, MN. They were married for 38 years and resided in Vinita, OK.
Bill was a good husband, father and brother. He was always there for his son and would call him once a month. Bill never forgot Sandy's birthday. She could set the clock for the time he would be calling. Those calls will be missed. He had a good sense of humor. Even in his last days, he was teasing the staff at the nursing home. He had a great smile that would light up a room and he will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Olson, Vinita, OK; a son, Brad Olson, Excelsior, MN; two sisters, Sandra Olson, Grand Forks, ND, Susan (Terry) Swartz, Jamestown, ND; a step-son, Jeff Chalmers, Langley, OK; a step-daughter, Judie (Steve) Schauner, Wichita, KS; several step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Inez Olson; brothers, Ron Olson, Jack Olson; sister-in-law, Helen Olson; a nephew, Randal Olson and great niece, Sierna Sky Becker-Janes.
Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2011 in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel.
Family Greeting: One hour prior to the memorial service in the funeral chapel on Friday.
Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery South, Grand Forks, ND.
Military Honors: Members of the American Legion Post 157, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817, Disabled American Veterans and the North Dakota National Guard.
