Duaine E. 'Dewey' Lund

Duaine E. 'Dewey' Lund, 88, Grand Forks, ND passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011 in Valley Memorial Home Eldercare, Grand Forks.

Duaine was born October 31, 1922 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Hjalmer and Agnes Lund. His mother pass-ed away when Duaine was young. He was raised by his father, Hjalmer and step-mother, Laura Peterson Lund. Duaine grew up and attended grade school at Rye 30. He always joked that he was kicked out of 3rd grade for not shaving.

Duaine married Christina (Kiki) Olson on October 1, 1944 at Augustana Lutheran Church of Grand Forks, ND. He farmed west of Grand Forks his entire life.

Duaine was a member of the United Lutheran Church, past council member of Ascension Lutheran Church and served on the Blooming Township Board. Duaine was also a member of the Eagles, Elks and Masonic Lodge. He was a supervisor for Jacques Seeds for many years.

Duaine enjoyed dancing, playing cards with grandchildren and great grandchildren and listening to old time music. He also enjoyed roller skating in his younger years.

Kiki passed away on January 14, 2007.

After both Duaine and LaVerne Pribula lost their spouses, they rekindled their partnership on September 7, 2008 in a ceremony at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Grand Forks.

Dewey is survived by his wife, LaVerne and her extended family: his four children, Gary (Helen) Lund, William "Bill" (Marcia) Lund, and Karen (Mike) Juntunen, all of Grand Forks and Cheryll (Ralph) Kotrba, Ada, MN; grandchildren, Scott Lund, Daryl Lund, Connie Gunderson, Chris Conner, Carrie Berglind, Michelle Bartuska, Bryan Juntunen, Erika Holmes, Wade Juntunen, Ross Lund, Lucy Lund and Greta Lund: 16 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother, Lyle Lund, Mississippi; sister Joyce Julian, Casper, WY.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kiki; four brothers, Orland, Kenny, Mike and Jim Lund.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, June 9, 2011 in United Lutheran Church of Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church.
