Barbara Kraska, 73, of Lancaster, Minnesota passed away Monday, May 23rd, 2011,at the Karlstad Healthcare Center in Karlstad, Minnesota
Barbara Lou Nielsen was born November 5, 1937 at Zimmerman, Minnesota, the daughter of Rasmus and Mildred (Brandt) Nielsen. She grew up in Zimmerman and was the youngest of eight children. Barbara graduated from Elk River High School in 1955 and worked in Minneapolis as a secretary and bank teller. On March 8, 1958 she married Leo Kraska at Webster, South Dakota. They lived in Hopkins, Minnesota until 1966 when they moved to the family farm in Richardville Township near Lancaster. Barbara worked in the cafe in Lancaster and at Margie's in Hallock. She also worked at the Lancaster Liquor Store for 20 years, retiring in 1998. Leo passed away in 1990. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Family members include four sons: Jon (Cindy) Kraska, North Bend, OR, Joseph (Angel Yonke) Kraska, Lancaster, James Kraska, Lancaster and Butch (Deb) Kraska, Stephen, MN; a daughter, Jennifer (Loren) Hagen, Montgomery, MN; 17 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Walter Nielsen, Big Lake, MN; two sisters: Margurite Swanson, Zimmerman, MN and Bertha Sanders, St. Paul, MN; as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and four brothers: Bob, Bill, Lester and Phillip.
Visitation will be held at the Austin Funeral Chapel in Hallock on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, May 27th, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, rural Lancaster.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The Austin Funeral Home of Hallock, MN is in charge of the arrangements.
