Jeremy Jay Braun

Jeremy Jay Braun, 33, died April 23, 2011 at his home in Grafton, ND.

Jeremy spent 32 years of his life at the State Developmental Center in Grafton; he was involved in the Deaf and Blind program early in his life. He had numerous care givers over the years and loved everyone. A special friend is Pat Lopez who was his "Other Mother."

Although Jeremy was limited mentally and physically, he was active in fundraisers that he co-hosted: Operation Christmas Child, Cinco De Mayo, Drayton Ambulance, Domestic Violence, Hurricane Katrina, Relay for Life, Centennial of the Developmental Center and various activities at his living area. Jeremy was active in the Ronald McDonald home in Fargo. He would host a yearly fundraiser and with the money they raised, would go shopping and purchase items for the home. He collected pop tops for the home. One of the biggest outcomes that he achieved is when he and Heidi (a friend from the Center) attended the Ronald McDonald Ball together. The past few years he hosted a fundraiser for Special Olympics and the money was given to the office in Grand Forks. This was a special fundraiser that Jeremy would complete because his brother Jim participated at the summer Olympic Games in Fargo. Jeremy would attend the event when he was able.

He enjoyed the many activities that the Center provided such as the Spring Gala and Halloween dances with his friends. Jeremy would make several visits home to Mandan. He was a member of the George Strait fan club.

Jeremy will be deeply missed by his mother, Barbara, Mandan; sister Michelle Jas, Irvine, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Brad Garpestad, Great Falls, MT; sister, Janae and Stephen Ronning, Minot, ND; brothers, Michael and Jimmy, Mandan; uncle, Dennis and Aunt Jeanie Bauern, Oceanside CA; nine nieces and nephews; Brock and Brittany Jas, Ileana, Malia and Lauren Braun, Gabby and Colter Garpestad, Sabryn and Sienna Ronning; step grandmother, Alvina and John Haull, Bismarck, two cousins and Kip Jas.

Jeremy was preceded in death by his father, Donald, and paternal and maternal grandparents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Kenneth Phillips as celebrant.

Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan next to his father.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 28, 2011 from 3:00 - 8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan with a Catholic Daughters Rosary and Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and may be directed to the Grafton Developmental Center.
