Howard George Schuett, 82, passed away at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN on March 30, 2011.
He was born in Crookston on October 3, 1928, to Reverend Edgar and Anna (Wuerte) Schuett. Howard grew up in Crookston, MN and was confirmed May 10, 1942 at Our Saviors Church. He graduated high school from Concordia Academy in 1946 and from Concordia Junior College, St Paul, MN in 1948. Then Howard attended St. Louis Theological Seminary, St Louis, MO and graduated June 1953. Later he attended Bemidji State College and earned his Master's in Counseling. Howard accepted his first call as Pastor at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Bellevue, NE from 1960-1973. In 1977 Howard returned to Crookston where he worked as a counselor and a program director at Glenmore until October 1992. After retirement, Howard worked part-time as chaplain with the 5th Step Program at Glenmore. On August 2, 1980, Howard married Lona (Pierce) Francis and they made their home in Crookston until moving to Grand Forks in 1995. Howard was a member and past president of the Rotary Club in Crookston. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Forks and served as an elder and pastoral assistant. Howard also taught the Thursday morning adult Bible study for many years. Howard enjoyed the lakes, especially going to their cabin on Steamboat Lake near Walker, Minnesota. He also loved woodworking and tinkering in his garage, often involving his grandchildren.
Howard will be remembered and missed by his wife Lona; stepdaughter Kim (Curt) Knutson, Fisher, MN and grandchildren Amy (Russell) Shimek, Manvel, ND; Chad Knutson, Kristen (Travis) Schwarz, Nicole Knutson all of Fisher, MN. He also has one great grandchild Tristen Schwarz. Brother-in-law Lyle (Elaine) Pierce of Grand Forks, ND; Sister-in-law Lilian (Pierce) Hulst of Crookston, MN; Sisters-in-law Lil Schuett of Bloomington, MN; and Carolyn Schuett of Milwaukee, WI. He has several nieces and nephews. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Norman and Ken, and sister Ruth Ross Jensen.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, ND with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm (PRAYER SERVICE AT 5:00) Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, MN.
Burial will be at Memorial Park South, Grand Forks, ND.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Howard's name to the Alzheimer's Association, the Humane Society, or the Pioneer Memorial Home in Erskine, MN.
