Daniel Earl Kegler, 54, of Crookston, Minnesota, died unexpectedly, Tuesday morning, February 22, 2011, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Daniel Earl Kegler, 54, of Crookston, Minnesota, died unexpectedly, Tuesday morning, February 22, 2011, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Dan was born on June 13, 1956, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the son of Gordon and Grace (Honda) Kegler. He was raised in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School. On April 29, 1976 Dan began his career with Ottertail Power Company, where he has been employed since. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sandra Faye Klein, on September 10, 1977. The couple made their home in Crookston. Dan had a lifelong love of history, travel, and antiques. He was a member of the Crookston Collectors Club and was involved in the Big Brother Program. Dan was also an advocate for our four-legged friends. Although never blessed with children of their own, Dan was Godfather to seven children. In 1987, he became co-owner of the Baseball Card Mart in Crookston, a business he operated with Brian Schumacher for several years. In 2007, Dan received a Safety Award from Ottertail and was soon to receive his 35 year service award.

Dan will be very sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

Loving family members include his wife, Sandy; his dog, Penny; mother, Grace Kegler, sisters, Karen Sweeney, Brenda Rolland and Julie Moen, and brother, Roger Kegler, all of Grand Forks, ND; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Dan was preceded in death by his father, Gordon; his grandparents, Ralph and Rose Honda, and Earl and Anna Kegler; nephew, James Sweeney; brother-in-law, Dennis Sweeney; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Werner and Ellen Klein.

A memorial service and celebration of Dan's life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, February 28, 2011, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston with The Very Rev. Bob Schreiner, presiding.

Visitation with Dan's family will be from 1-3:00 p.m. Monday at the church.

The Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home is assisting with funeral arrangements.
