Ellen Brisson, age 92, of Larimore, ND, passed away at her home on Monday, February 7, 2011.
Ellen Sawicki was born the daughter of John and Mary A. (Halariurcz) Sawicki, February 15, 1918 in her parents home at 147 Taft St. in St. Paul, MN. She began working hard as a young girl at the age of 4, chopping wood for cooking, gathering baby chickens and going to the grocery store for her mother. Her formal education was in St. Paul, MN. As a teenager, she did jobs of cleaning homes and later worked at Armour Packing Plant in South St.Paul, MN.
Ellen married her belovd husband Marcell "Marty" Brisson on June 24, 1939 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, St. Paul, MN. Ellen and Marty were married for 67 years and loved each other very much. They lived in St. Paul, Killeen, Texas; Beltin, Texas; Minnewaukan, ND and Larimore, ND.
During World War II, while her husband was stationed at Camp Hood, Texas, Ellen worked for a dry cleaners in Belton, Texas. In 1948, the couple moved to Minnewaukan, ND from St. Paul, MN. There Ellen and Marty owned and operated "Marty"s Steakhouse" where they worked 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 7 years. In rural Larimore, ND, Ellen also worked long hours in the family vegetable garden where she took orders for her vegetables as well as picked and sold the vegetables. Ellen canned and froze many of the vegetables and fruits for her family also. She was also a very excellent baker and baked many things for the her family's special occasions. Ellen was a den mother to Den # 5 Cub Scouts in Larimore, ND; hosted the Valley Builders 4-H Club when it was her turn in her home in rural Larimore, ND. She liked to read, sew, iron clothes, go fishing at Leech Lake, MN. She attended the St. Paul Winter Carnival with her husband, Marty where they went on toboggan rides and enjoyed ice skating together. Ellen was a good baseball player which she enjoyed playing very much. She also enjoyed watching TV news, listening to the radio and playing Bingo. She was an active member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Larimore, ND and St. Ann's Altar Circle.
Ellen will be very much missed and loved by her family and friends. She was very ambitious and was good at everything she did. She was a very hard worker and active in everything she did. Ellen was very intelligent and very smart and possessed and abundance of wisdom. She really wanted to live. Ellen was a good woman, a good person, and a real good mother. Ellen was blessed by God with special gifts also; she had very high moral standards and values. She enjoyed sharing and saying a special prayer called "Thinking of You" to everyone she would meet. People were impressed with her excellent memory. She loved everyone, forgave everyone, and thanked everyone for everything they did for her.
Ellen is survived by her oldest son, Marcus Brisson at home in Larimore, ND; her daughter, Marlene Brisson of Fargo, ND; three grandchildren, Amanda (Chris) Walker of Grand Forks, ND, Justin (Allison) Johnson of East Grand Forks, MN, and Kathleen Bockert of Grand Forks, ND; two great grandchildren, Nevaeh Walker and Leo Johnson; many nieces and nephews, family relatives and friends; and special great niece, Lynn Rondeau of East Grand Forks, MN.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Marcell "Marty" Brisson; five brothers, John, Leo, Fred, Mike, and Alex Sawicki; three sisters, Rose Rondeau, Anna Spangenberg, and Helen Kingsley.
VISITATION: St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Larimore, ND on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 from 4 to 7 PM and for one prior to Mass.
FAMILY SERVICE, ROSARY: St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Larimore, ND on Wednesday, February 9th at 7:00 PM.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Larimore, ND on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM, Father James Goodwin officiating.
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hugo, MN on Saturday, February 12, 2001 at 11:00 AM, with visitation 1 hour prior to Mass, Jon Schelley officiating. Arrangements: Brown Funeral Home of Larimore, ND is in charge of arrangements.
