Carole Wald, age 64, was born in Grand Forks, ND, but grew up in the St. Hilaire, Thief River Falls area.
Carole left this world Saturday, January 15, having battled the effects of cancer treatment long enough already, joining her mother and father, Katherine and Frank Wald; her brothers, Don and Tony, and stepmother, Katie Jo.
She is survived by her brother, Robert (Rita) of Thief River Falls, MN; sisters, Renee (Brian) Chapman of Chicago, IL; Kathy (John) Connelly of Minnetonka, MN; sister-in-law, Arlene Wald of Plymouth, MN; nephews, James, Darin (Rebecca), Jack and Joey Connelly, and Eric (Stacey) Chapman; nieces, Veronica, Patti (Scott) Rood, Lauri, Lisa (Justin) Ingham, Kari (Dave) Hayden, and Dawn (Steve) Guest, great-nieces & -nephews, too. Sister, aunt, friend; boss, co-worker, volunteer, Carole's home was hub and haven to her family. She loved & generously shared books and movies, puzzles, games, and travel. Raised on a farm in northern Minnesota, her love of learning began in a one-room school house. Her dream to become a teacher became a reality, as did most of her goals. She taught English before she embarked on a Masters Degree, having secured a fellowship to study and teach in Germany. Changing careers, she worked in financial aid at Metro University, beginning her tenure as an employee of the State of Minnesota. Advancing quickly through the ranks, she settled into Research with the Dept. of Revenue, finally becoming Assistant Commissioner Individual Tax, where she was regaled as the Queen of E-File and honored by the IRS for her contributions and accomplishments. After thirty-one years, the governor declared her retirement day, May 1, 2008, "Carole Wald Day" in the State of MN.
The funeral was last week.
