Gary J. Kittelson, age 75, of Bottineau, ND died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at a Bottineau, hospital.
Gary was born September 27, 1935, to George and Amelia "Molly" Schultz Kittelson, in Rugby, ND. Gary was raised in the Rolette, ND, area. He attended the Rolette Public School and later North Dakota State University in Fargo and the North Dakota School of Forestry for two years. Gary returned home to farm with his father. He married Elaine Eunice Mortenson, at the Mouse River Lutheran Church in rural Bottineau County on June 28, 1957. Gary and Elaine lived in Rolette where he farmed. In 1973 they opened the Five-K department store in Rolette and operated it until 1984. In 1995 they moved to Aurora, CO and in 2006 they moved to Lake Metigoshe.
Gary was a current member of the Metigoshe Lutheran Church. He had also served on the Board of Directors for Metigoshe Ministries. Gary had previously been a member of the Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette, ND when he and Elaine lived in Rolette. He held many positions on the Valle Church Council, including President and Treasurer. Gary also had been a delegate to the National Convention of the American Lutheran Church. Gary was also a Mason and belonged to the Kem Temple Shriners in Grand Forks, ND. He was the Potentate of Kem Temple in 1991. Gary truly valued all of his friendships with his fellow Shriners over the years.
Gary was a devoted husband and loving father. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 53 years, Elaine Kittelson, of Bottineau, ND; one son, Brent (Thelma) of El Paso, Texas; two daughters, Molly-Jo (Jim) Schlichting, of Springfield, Virginia, and Georgi-Ann (Art) Sidel, of Medina, Washington; and four grandchildren, Alexa and Sarah Schlichting, Hannah and Hunter Sidel.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, George and Amelia (Molly) Kittelson; his step-mother Minerva (Minnie) Schrall Kittelson; his step-brother, Richard Schrall; and step-sister, Katherine Schrall Hanson.
Funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at the Lake Metigoshe Christian Center.
Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
A memorial service and celebration of Gary's life will be held later this spring when he is interred at the Rolette Cemetery.
