Peggy Joyce Magnusson passed away at the Oak Crest Senior Living Center on January 13, 2011 at the age of 78.
Peggy Torfin was born on November 26, 1932 in Roseau, MN, to Peggy Esther (Sorter) and Irving B. Torfin. As a child, she moved east of Roseau and attended School District #49E, and later graduated from Roseau High School in 1950. She and Yvonne Magnusson were married on April 1, 1951 in Roseau. In addition to raising five boys on the farm, Peggy worked as a secretary for Herman Engebretson Law Office, the Roseau Electric Coop, and the Citizens State Bank. She served as the Assistant Secretary of the Roseau County Fair for many years and made it to the National Make it Wool Contest. She and Yvonne were honored as the Valley Farmer/Homemaker of the Year Award. She was active in 4-H for many years.
Peggy enjoyed all types of crafts, including sewing and quilting, of which many are displayed in the area. She was always working on different projects. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler, curler and golfer. She will be remembered for her hard-work ethic, her strong faith and caring spirit, and her gift for teaching others.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Denise) of Pelican Rapids, MN, John of Roseau, Mitch (Holly) of Roseau, and Richard (Kathy) of Roseau; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Iver (Jenny) Torfin of Thief River Falls, MN; sister, Lois (Robert) Eisenrich of Grafton, ND; and daughter-in-law, Susan Magnusson of Roseau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Yvonne in 1987; son, Robert in 2004; and sister, Dorothy Gunnarson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 17th at 2 PM at Moe Lutheran Church in Roseau.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 5-7 PM with a 7:00 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.
Interment will be at the Hope Cemetery.
