Lyla Marie McLean, age 79, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at her home near Gilby, North Dakota.
Lyla was born on April 25, 1931 in Grafton, ND to Al and Eva Normand of Oakwood, ND. She attended school in rural Walsh County and Grafton High School, graduated High School from St. James Academy, Grand Forks, ND and received her teaching degree from Mayville State College.
She taught in rural Walsh County and at Gilby, ND before marrying Gordon McLean of Gilby, in 1954 at Oakwood, ND.
Over the years she was involved in Cub Scouts, 4-H leadership, and ND Cattle Women.
Her favorite things were her husband and children, traveling, quilting and reading.
She is survived by her husband Gordon, her daughter Laura of Gilby; her son Burton (Tone) and grandchildren Teah, Ian, and Kayla of Vestskogen, Norway; and her daughter Elizabeth Misund (Eldar), and granddaughter Eva Emilie, of Oslo, Norway; her brothers Allen (Vi) Normand, of LaMesa, CA; Donald (Earline) of Boring, OR; Kenneth (Rita) of Fairborn, OH; and Raymond (Joanne) of Gresham, OR; her sisters Ione (Bill) Kirby of Meridian, ID; and Thea (Jack) Dolan of Santa Rosa, CA; and sister-in-law Sandy Normand, Alexandria, MN; brother- in-law Jerome Pilon of Drayton, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Gregory of Gilby; son-in-law Von Anderson of Orr, ND; her parents; sister Lois Breniser Pilon of Drayton, ND; brother-in-law Joe Breniser of Gresham, OR; sister and brother-in-law Inez and James Kamrowski, of Park Rapids, MN; brothers Charlie Normand, of Gresham, OR; Dee Normand of Alexandria, MN; and two nephews.
MEMORIAL SERVICES: Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Gilby Presbyterian Church in Gilby, ND.
VISITATION: One hour prior to the memorial service. A lunch will follow the service at the church.
INTERMENT: (Summer 2011) Prairie Home Cemetery, Gilby, ND.
