Kenneth H. Christianson, 87, of Portland, ND, died Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.

Kenneth H. Christianson, 87, of Portland, ND, died Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.

He was born on March 4, 1923, near Sharon, ND in Steele County, the son of Herman and Clara (Rud) Christianson. Kenneth attended rural school and then worked on the family farm.

On September 27, 1945, he married Vivian H. Dahl in Crookston, MN, and the couple resided in Portland, ND. Kenneth worked for various area farmers and then as a mechanic for Halda Oil, a bulk fuel driver for Mobil and then at Sam's Texaco. He became a civil service employee at the Grand Forks Air Force Base, working on heavy equipment, until retiring in 1989. After retiring, he would continue to help various family members on their farms. Ken entered the Luther Memorial Home of Mayville in 2002.

Kenneth was a member of the Aurdal Lutheran Church and also a Volunteer Fireman in Portland. He was also a member of the Eagle's Club. His love of gardening and farming were very evident. He enjoyed yard work of all kinds, including snow-blowing.

He is survived by one daughter, Becky (Karl) Jorgenson of Mayville; two sons, JeRoy Christianson of Fargo and Terry (Barb) Christianson of West Fargo; five grandchildren, Tracy (Travis) Finck, Troy Christianson, Brandi (Corey) Richart, Taryn (Mitch) Meier and Megan (Jordan) Johnson; four great grandchildren, Ashley and Jordan Finck, Kane Johnson and Makenna Meier; two sisters, Hazel (Iddo) Nygaard of Hatton and Ruth (Norman) Lyndaas of WA; and one brother, Earl Christianson of Portland.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife Vivian in 1997; a daughter-in-law, Arlys; one sister, Myrtle Fishbien and five brothers, Leonard, Axel, Jerome, JeRoy and Elmer.

Visitation: 5-7 PM on Friday at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Aurdal Lutheran Church, Portland, ND.

Burial: Aurdal Lutheran Church Cemetery, Portland, ND.
