Dagny Alice Rude Mannie, 88, of Tolna, ND passed away Nov 6, 2010 in the Sheyenne Care Center Valley City, ND.
Dagny was born Aug. 28, 1922 at home in rural Hamar, ND the daughter of Herman and Marie (Haug) Rude. She grew up and attended country schools in the Hamar area and high school at Tolna. She then attended Mayville State Teachers College at Mayville, ND. Dagny received her Standard Certificate and then earned her life certificate after successfully teaching for 18 months. She started teaching a week after her 18th birthday.
Her third year of teaching, 1942, was as the elementary teacher at Hamar, ND. She met Ernest Mannie at a school carnival in Hamar. They were married September 24, 1943. Dagny continued her college education by attending summer school, correspondence courses, and Continued Education classes. She earned her degree in 1968 from Mayville State College.
Asked to finish out a teacher's school year in 1959, she continued teaching for 27 years at the Tolna Public School. She retired from teaching after 30 years of teaching.
After her retirement she wintered with family in Texas returning to North Dakota in the spring. She enjoyed reminiscing with former students. She passed the time doing crossword puzzles, reading and embroidery. She liked butterflies and pansies.
Mrs. Mannie was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Tolna and their WELCA. She also belonged to NDEA and Mayville State University Alumni Association. She was a former member of Sr. Citizens.
Dagny will be remembered and deeply missed by her children and their spouses, Deanna Montgomery of Arlington, TX, Monica and Dr. John Bacon of Alvarado, TX, Marcia and Mike Gage of Longview, TX, Clark and Chris Mannie of Fargo ND, and Eunice and Don Zimprich of Cooperstown, ND; grandchildren and spouses, Melissa & Oscar Casillas, Michelle & Robert Stokes, Aaron & Melody Boatwright, Aimee & Bruce Cowley, Nicole Gage, Chad Mannie, Cory Mannie, Clinton Mannie, Clayton & Rechaye Mannie, Dawn (D.J.) & Ryan Mathias, Brandi Zimprich; great grandchildren and spouse, Chelsie & Binh Nguyen, Ellisha Stokes, Conner Boatwright, Nicholas Cowley, Kirsten Briann Cowley, Noah Cowley, Jalyn Gage, Jade Mannie, Cohan Mannie, Caleb Mannie, Allysen Mathias, Hadlee Mathias, & Trever Mathias, great great granddaughter, London Nguyen, step grandchildren, Ben & Candace Bacon, Amy Miller, step-great grandchildren, Noah & Katie Miller; sister, Esther Oien of Binford, ND; sister-in-law, Hazel Rude of Tolna, ND; special friends, Jean Hand and Charlotte Hatlestad; special cousin, Alpha Quam; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends she has made through her many years in the Tolna community.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Norman, Maynard, and Helmer Rude, sisters, Idora Knutson, Alvilde Johnson Seeb, & Helga Oien, and son-in-law, Dennis Montgomery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Tolna. A prayer service will be held there beginning at 7:00. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the funeral on Thursday.
Dagny's funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the American Lutheran Church, Tolna.
Burial will be in the Tolna Cemetery.
