Betty Jane Palmiscno , age 83, passed away peacefully Friday, October 29, 2010 after a long battle with Alzheimer's, surrounded by family, and under the loving care of the staff at Valley Memorial Homes Woodside Village in Grand Forks, ND.

Betty was born on July 29, 1927 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of Bill and “Dolly” (Schue) Whalen, Sr.

She attended school in Grand Forks, and graduated from St. James Academy in 1946. After graduation, she worked at Whalen’s Oil and Fuel, now known as Whalen’s Moving and Storage. She met the love of her life Domenick Palmiscno, whom she married on Oct. 7, 1947 at St. Michael’s Church. Betty devoted her life as a wife to Dom and mother to her eight children. She was a Cub Scout den leader, Religious education teacher, and loving mother. As her children grew up, she worked at UND concessions as “Popcorn” lady. She popped popcorn at the Hyslop for many years.

Betty was very involved in St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She served as Altar Society President and for many years as a member of the Funeral Committee.

Betty will be remembered as a loving, caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She attended many football, hockey, and basketball games, as well as numerous skating programs, ballet recitals, chorus concerts, class plays and Christmas pageants. Betty loved to work outdoors in their garden, rake leaves and shovel snow. As a hobby she was an avid reader and loved to do puzzles. Her grandchildren love the many quilts she made for them.

Betty is survived by her husband, Domenick and they celebrated 63 years of marriage; sons, Don (Linda), Bill (Pauly), Tony (Debbie), Rick (Jodi), Steve (Kelley), Scott (Connie), Todd (Cheri) and a daughter, Becky (Mike Brundin) all of the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks area; 24 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pat (John) Kuller, Seattle, WA; sisters-in-law, Carina (Mrs. Larry) Whalen, Grand Forks, ND and Mary (Mrs. Con) Whalen of Texas and a brother-in-law, Adam Schuck, St. Paul, MN.
