Ruby A. Johnson, 93, of Crookston, Minnesota, died peacefully at her home, early Sunday morning, October 3, 2010.
Ruby was born on September 27, 1917, in Russia Township, Polk County, near Beltrami, Minnesota, the daughter of Sigurd and Jennie (Ogaard) Ingvalson. She was raised near Beltrami and graduated from Beltrami High School in 1935. On September 27, 1941, Ruby was united in marriage to Henry Johnson at Crookston. The couple made their home near Euclid where they lived until 1968. Ruby then moved into Crookston. As a young lady, Ruby worked as a hired girl helping other families. After she was married, she focused her energies on raising her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. Ruby was a long-time member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Crookston and belonged to the Methodist Women and the Women's Life Insurance Society. She had an extraordinary talent for sewing and baking, most notably for her lemon and peach pies. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and jumbles, which she did up until her passing.

Loving family members include her two daughters, Beverly (Jim) Tate of Colorado Springs, CO, and Kathleen (Paul) Hanson of Crookston, MN; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Paula and Randy Portrey and their children, Jordan and Noah, of Council Bluffs, IA, Dr. Susan Tate and Amanda Travers of Fairbanks, AK, Steve and Susan Hanson and their children, Luke, Jared and Emma, of Maple Grove, MN, Michelle Hanson and Allen Ingling Jr. of Rockville, MD, Jennifer and Jeff Cook of Hubbard, IA, Nancy and Chris Kolstoe and their children, Brandon and Sarah, of Red Lake Falls, MN, Jason Hanson of Crookston, Diana and Taylor Amiot of Cottonwood, AZ, and Alex Hanson and Danielle Stenvick of St. Hilaire, MN; a sister, Hilma Bennett of Rockford, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her parents, Sigurd and Jennie Ingvalson; sisters, Blanche Ingvalson, Viola Allen, Olga Gumkie, Myrtle Ingvalson and Sally Hesby.
The funeral service for Ruby A. Johnson will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Crookston, with Rev. Michelle Miller, officiating.
Visitation will be at the church on Friday October 8, 2010 from 5-7:30 pm, with a 7:30 pm prayer service, and also for an hour before the funeral.
Interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston.
Arrangements are with the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston.
