Arthur William Yanish, 77 of Alvarado died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.

Art was born April 1, 1933 in Fisher, MN to William and Eliza (Ruby) Yanish. He was married to Marion Hedlund on February 23, 1952 in Oslo, MN. Art was drafted into the Army shortly thereafter and they spent two years in Fort Lewis, WA. After Art's discharge, the family moved back to Minnesota and enjoyed living in and becoming an active part of the Alvarado community.

Art farmed and worked for farmers but eventually found his niche as a painting & drywall contractor. For the remainder of his career, Art enjoyed helping his many loyal customers with their building, remodeling and decorating needs, as well as his own projects in his garage.

Art loved fishing and hunting with his family and friends. Many wonderful memories were made at the cabin in Roseau County.

Art was a member of several local service organizations and was especially proud to be a member of Alvarado American Legion Post #35. He was also an active member of New Hope Lutheran Church.

Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife of 58 years, Marion; children, Terry (Ronnell)Yanish and Sharon (Shawn) Bubb of Alvarado, Deborah (Francis) Foerster of Bremerton, WA, Bill (Gale) Yanish of Elko, NV and Bruce (Kathy)Yanish of Howard, SD. Grandchildren Tera Jarvey, Kurt Yanish, Jason Foerster, Jennifer King, Livia Zitzow, Adam Nordling, Barry Yanish, Kristen Yanish, Allison Malone and Andrew Yanish. Great-grandchildren Aimee Driscoll, Lucas and Jenna Jarvey, Sidney King, Ethan, Bailey and McKenzie Foerster, Cameron and Micaela Yanish, Lauren and Aiden Zitzow, Sydney Malone and Nicholas and Ethan Nordling. Also left to mourn are sisters Shirley Boushee, Bernice Nokelby, Rosemary (Wayne) Cayler and Dorothy (Don) Boushee and brothers Richard (Judy) Yanish and Mike (Billie)Yanish.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Marilyn, an infant brother, his sister Clara Hanson and brother Leonard Yanish, and a very much loved granddaughter Ashley Yanish.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 AM on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Alvarado, MN.

VISITATION: After 6:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday at New Hope Lutheran Church in Alvarado and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

INTERMENT: Oaklawn Cemetery, Alvarado, MN.

I am sorry to see Art's passing. I worked for Art in the summers while principal of the high school in 1972 and 1973. He was a great person and taught me skills that I have used over the years in my own homes. I also remember the family. My sympathy to all. Sincerely, Ron Gruwell
