Mary Kinkade, 88, Ada, MN, died peacefully on Friday, August 13, 2010 at Bridges Care Community of Ada, under the care of Hospice.
Mary Louise Deisler was born July 10, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Curtis and Gertrude (Allworth) Deisler. She graduated from Lorain High School and Bowling Green State University in Ohio with a degree in Social Work. She received her master's degree in Social Work from Denver University. Mary taught second grade for a year and then worked as a social worker for the American Red Cross in Fort Knox, Kentucky. There, she met her future husband, Byron Kinkade.
Mary and Byron were married on August 13, 1947, in Mansfield, Ohio. They lived in Minneapolis and Minot before settling in Ada in 1949, where they raised their family. She was active in the Congregational Church as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent, member of Ladies Aid, the Ada Hospital Auxiliary, served as Norman County Republican Chairwoman, and numerous other community activities. After Byron's retirement in 1986, they moved to White Earth Lake, where they lived until moving back to Ada in 2005.
Mary's first love was her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her most joyful moments were celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and holidays with family members. Mary was also an accomplished cook who was not afraid to try new recipes or to prepare a traditional dish a new way. Her favorite pastimes were completing the daily puzzles in the newspaper, reading, playing bridge and staying in touch with her many friends.
Mary Kinkade is survived by her children: Bob (Mindy) Kinkade, Mary Lou (Dwight) Heitman, Polly (Tim) Wagner, all of Ada, and Peter Kinkade, Santa Margarita, CA; 16 grandchildren: Ali, Tyler, Greyson, Sawyer, and Livi Kinkade; Chandra (Kevin)Ackley, Marissa (Pat) Sheehan, Jared Heitman; Jenna (Ruben) Alvarez, Carly, Tim, Sarah, Peter, and Nick Wagner; Jono and Ryan Kinkade, and 2 great-grandchildren, Harper Sheehan and Kade Ackley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron, her parents, sister Betty Risser, son Joby, and daughter-in-law Anne McMahon.
