Esther Harstad, 101, of Grafton and formerly of Lake Bronson, Minnesota passed away at Unity Hospital in Grafton on Friday, July 9, 2010.
Esther Goede was born on March 6th, 1909 to William and Lucinda (Dingler) Goede in Sanborn, Minnesota and later moved with her family to Lake Bronson in 1919. She was united in marriage to Ole Harstad in June 1936. For a brief time they lived on Ole Nelson's farm near the Red River, west of Hallock. They then moved to the George Norm farm, east of Hallock where they farmed for two years. Later they moved to a farm northeast of Stephen where they lived for 25 years and raised three children, Carolyn, John and JoAnn. At Ole's retirement in 1966 they moved to Lake Bronson.
After Ole's death in 1991, Esther moved to Elk River to be near her son, John and his family. Esther was a member of St. Petri's Lutheran Church, rural Stephen and later of Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Bronson. She had been active in Ladies's Aid, Luther League and helped with 4-H when her children belonged to the club.
Family members include a daughter, JoAnn Harstad and companion, Gary Nelson, Grafton, ND; a daughter-in-law, Betty Harstad, Elk River, MN; son-in-law, LeRoy (Lucille) Nelson, Argyle, MN; grandchildren, Lee (Kris) Nelson, Ham Lake, MN, Keith (Terri) Nelson, Andover, MN, Sherrie (Kenneth) Frank, Fargo, Jerry Nelson, Fargo, Kenneth Nelson, Anoka, MN, Bill (Roxanne) Harstad, Otsego, MN, Douglas (Lisa) Harstad, Palmdale, CA, Marcella (Jeff) Scholten, Urbandale, IA, Jackie (Eric) Benson, Petersfield, MB, Michael Wong, Winnipeg, MB, David Wong, Winnipeg; and 33 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ole; a son, John; daughter, Carolyn Nelson, a great grandson, Jeff Nelson; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 17th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Bronson.
Visitation will be held in the church for one hour prior to the funeral service.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Lake Bronson.
