Marlene M. Garritson, 72, of Grand Forks, ND died Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks where she had resided for the past seven months.

Marlene Margaret Bannach was born June 30, 1937, the daughter of George and Agnes (Fetsch) Bannach in Calio, ND. She attended school in Calio and graduated from Munich, ND High School in 1955. Marlene married Jack Garritson on August 9, 1955 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Calio and they moved to Grand Forks. Marlene worked for Kmart for 26 years, most of them managing the garden center, which started her love of flower gardening. She retired in 1995. Marlene loved to cook and bake and was always delivering food to her family and friends. They looked forward to receiving these "care packages," especially her potato salad. She also enjoyed gathering with her friends to play bingo. Marlene loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and she will be deeply missed by them, and also her good friend Boop. She endured so much during her illness, but remained determined and never complained.

Marlene is survived by her children, Sandy (Ken) Krom, Grand Forks, Diane (Jim) Bergrud, Grand Forks, Larry (Karen), Denver, CO, Ron (Loree), and Rick (Stacy), Grand Forks; grandchildren, Jaci (Ross) Rivard, Jamie (Shane) Varnson, Jodi Krom, Chris and Josh Bergrud, Jake and Ben Garritson, Jessica (Dan) Green, Jennifer (Tony) Wille, Jason Garritson, Jordyn, Daulton, and Gunner Garritson; great-grandchildren, Ryder, Elle, and Gracie; a sister, Barb (DeWayne) Janzen, Grand Forks; brothers, Jerome (Mary) Bannach, Grand Forks and Elmer Bannach, Munich, ND; sister-in-law, Janelle Bannach, Cando, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Jack on February 8, 2004; son, Daniel; her parents; brothers, James, Edwin, and Victor; a sister, Anna Marie Bannach.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Gregory J. Norman - Norman Funeral Home, Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Tuesday.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
