Evon Lillian Jahn was born on November 7, 1922 to Oscar and Lillian (Pederson) Jahn in Hillsboro. She grew up on the family farm where she learned a strong work ethic. It was said she could out work many a man on the farm. She attended Bloomfield grade school and graduated from Bohnsack High School. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist church. She later attended Interstate Business College and NDSU until moving to the West Coast during WWII. Evon worked in California and Washington in the factories during the war. She was united in marriage to Marlin Manthey and they had a daughter, Vonie. In 1955 she married Duane Nelson and to them was born a daughter, Tanya. They couple farmed until they retired in 1988. She was a superb seamstress in the area for many years, a hard working farm wife, and terrific cook and lefse maker. She loved taking care of her family, bingo, and mowing the lawns. She was proudest of her granddaughter, Briana, who inherited her grandma’s artistic talents.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
