Robert “Bob” J. Hutchison, 83, formerly of Fertile and Fosston, MN died on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, MN.

Robert “Bob” J. Hutchison, 83, formerly of Fertile and Fosston, MN died on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, MN.

Bob was born on September 6, 1926, to John and Grace (Stark) Hutchison in Hillsboro, ND. He was the younger of six children. Bob was baptized at the Methodist Church in Hillsboro. He attended school in Caledonia, ND, and graduated in 1944. In February of 1945, Bob entered the United States Army, and took his basic training at Fort Hood, TX. He served in Yokahoma, Japan, until he was discharged in November of 1946.

On August 14, 1949, Bob married Joyce Thompson in Crookston, MN. Together, they raised five children. As a family they enjoyed camping and in the later years, Bob enjoyed golfing, especially with his sons. Bob worked for Reinhardt Bros, The Fargo Post Office, and in 1975, was transferred to Fertile, MN, where he was Postmaster until retirement in 1990.

Joyce passed away on January 6, 1986. On June 12, 1993, Bob married Ann Haaven of Clearbrook, MN. They lived in Fertile, MN until 2007, when they moved to Fosston, MN. He entered the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in April of 2010.

Bob was a member of the American Legion and Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN. He loved to work with puzzles and in his garden. Playing cards with friends and family, dancing waltzes or polka, and bowling kept Bob active.

Bob is survived by his wife, Ann, Fosston, MN; four sons: Gary (Rose), Belen, NM, Keith (Julie), Jackson, TN, Kevin (Gina) Fargo, ND, and Brad (Kirsten), Faribault, MN; one daughter: Barb (Tim) Hansen, Hawley, MN; 25 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, LuVerne Hutchison, Hatton, ND; several nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joyce, brother, Richard, and four sisters: Alveretta, Doris, Eleanor, and Phyllis.

Funeral service will be on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 31, 2010, from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.

Burial will be in the Caledonia Cemetery, Caledonia, ND.
