Annie Cerkowniak, 86, of Hallock, MN passed away at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Tuesday evening, May 18th, 2010.

Annie Kushinski was born May 14, 1924 on the family farm in Richardville Township of Kittson County to Frank and Rose (Pollack) Kushinski. Annie was baptized and confirmed in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. At the age of six she moved with her family to Cannon Township and attended West Cannon country school. On October 14, 1943 she Married Emil Cerkowniak at St. Patrick's Church.

The couple built a home north of Lake Bronson and raised their family there. Annie worked at the Karlstad Nursing Home as cook for many years. Emil died in 1976. Annie moved to Hallock in 1983 and was the housekeeper at St. Patrick's priest's residence. She retired in 1988. Annie was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, The Golden Age Singers, Halma-Lake Bronson American Legion Auxiliary and the Hazelton Homemakers Club. Annie enjoyed embroidery and made dish towels, quilts and rugs. She also enjoyed "Bingo Night" and playing cards with her friends. Annie became a resident of the nursing home on September 9, 2009.

She is survived by a son, Donald (Julie) Cerkowniak, Lake Bronson, MN; a daughter Sue Winger, Hallock, MN; six grandchildren, Martin Harings Jr., Kristen Loeding, Bill Anderson, Jennifer Harings, Steven Cerkowniak and Emily Winger; 8 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; and a sister, Doris Anderson, Hallock.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil; a son, Martin who died on May 1, 1975; brothers, Edward, Stanley and Martin; an infant sister, Victoria and sister, Violet Baker.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Austin-Hughes Funeral Chapel, Hallock.

Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Lake Bronson, MN.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Sorry to hear of Annie - I remember when they all used to visit together with my mom and say hi at other activities. How things change. Roger and Judy Davis
