Shirley M. West, 71, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010 in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
Shirley Mae Hillestad was born May 18, 1938 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Inga Hillestad. She moved with her mother to Grand Forks and graduated in 1956 from Central High School in East Grand Forks, MN. As a student, she was an active member of the High School Choir.
Shirley married Donald L. West on April 7, 1967 in Grand Forks, ND. Donald preceded her in death on October 2, 1990. Shirley was a member of United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. She loved to play Bingo, work with crossword puzzles and do the Jumble.
She is survived by her sons, Robert (Debra) West, Justin West, all of Grand Forks; daughters, Sharon (fiancé Pat Uhrich) Fields, Betty "Boop" Hillestad, Nicki West, Tammy (Dale) Griggs, all of Grand Forks; a sister, Verna (Elwood) Jorde, McVille, ND; 1 niece; 2 nephews; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband Donald; 2 uncles and an aunt.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2010 in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel 2950 So. Washington St.
Visitation: 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the funeral chapel on Wednesday.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery North, Grand Forks, ND.
