Joyce Erickson, 78, of Viking, MN died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Joyce was born on June 28, 1931 in Viking, MN to Frank and Amy (Syverson) Hansen. She attended and graduated from Newfolden High School and later, worked as a telephone operator in Thief River Falls. On December 29, 1951 at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks, MN she married Earl R. Erickson. They made their home in rural Viking where they farmed and raised registered Guernsey's and turkeys. Earl passed away on April 12, 2005.
Joyce was active in Zion Lutheran Church, where she was superintendent of the Sunday School she also taught Sunday School and held various offices in the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Viking Quilters, Town and Country Garden Club, 4-H leader and Swedish Agassiz Society as a board member. In 2009 she was the honorary co-chair for Marshall County Relay for Life. She especially enjoyed listening to the Minnesota Twins. Joyce loved to garden and spend time with her grandchildren.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughters, Vicky (Wilford) Hillebrand of Grand Forks, ND and Jayne (Rydell) Nieland of Sisseton, SD; two grandchildren, Damon and Parker Nieland; four step-grandchildren, Marc (Diane) Hillebrand of Grand Forks, ND, Sarah (Joel) Scharf of Moorhead, MN, Lisa (Dwight) Arens of Grand Forks, ND and Jeff (LeAnn) Hillebrand of Monticello, MN; five step-great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Zachary, Allison Hillebrand, Andrew Scharf and McKenzie Arens; brother, Wayne Hansen of Brazil; brother-in-law, George (Emma) Erickson of Viking, MN, sisters-in-law, Donna Erickson of Grand Rapids MI and Joan Hansen of Williston, ND and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl and brother, Kenneth.
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking, MN.
Visitation: After 2:00 p.m. with a 3:30 p.m. Prayer service at DuBore Funeral Home on Sunday and one hour before the services at the church on Monday.
Interment: Viking Cemetery in Viking, MN.
