Ellen Ostlie, 89, of Northwood, North Dakota died Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood.
Ellen Gladys (Tosterud) Ostlie was born September 3, 1920 in Beaver Creek Township, Steele County, North Dakota, the daughter of Elmer and Gunda (Sanda) Tosterud. She was baptized and confirmed at Goose River Lutheran Church in Newburgh Township, Steele County.
Ellen was married to Clifford Ostlie on April 18, 1946 in Crookston, MN. The log home where Clifford was born became their first home and in 1953 they built their new home. They farmed in Lind Township until their retirement in 1977. Clifford died July 8, 1997. Ellen entered Northwood Deaconess Health Center in the spring of 2006. Throughout her life, Ellen enjoyed her collection of pens, salt and pepper shakers, tea cups, and cats.
She is survived by four children: Darryl (Louise) Ostlie, James (Audrey) Ostlie, and Steven Ostlie, all of Northwood and daughter Cynthia (Donald Auger) Ostlie of Brookings, SD; eight grandchildren: Scott (Stephanie) Ostlie of Northwood, Lori (Chad) Verke of Hatton, Stacy (Erick) Brekke, Nancy Ostlie, Shawn Ostlie, Kevin Ostlie, all of Fargo, Michael (Lindsay) Ostlie of Loveland, CO, and Jeanette Ostlie of Wahpeton; ten great-grandchildren: Jacob, Elizabeth, Lincoln and Kennedy Ostlie of Northwood, Keith, Kyle, Morgan, and Ryan Verke of Hatton, and Karsen and Logan Brekke of Fargo; one sister Olga (Elmer) Erickson of Northwood;
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Beaver Creek Lutheran Church of rural Northwood with burial in Bethania Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Tuesday at the Bilden Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
