Maxine F. Gillis, 94, formerly of Grand Forks, died April 25, 2010 at the Chestertown Nursing Center in Chestertown, MD.
Maxine was born Oct. 16, 1915 in Mekinock, ND, the youngest of 5 children to Olaf & Olga (Heen) Quenrud. Maxine graduated from GF Central in 1933. Maxine's work life was spent at Nash Finch in GF where she met and married her husband Mack Gillis on May 19, 1945 in Crookston, MN. The marriage was blessed with 2 children, Gary Wayne & Vicki Jolene. She finished her long working career at the GF Grocery Company.
Maxine was a member of the Eastern Star and of the United Lutheran Church. She enjoyed bowling in her younger days but her most treasured passions were keeping up with her grandchildren and watching her Minnesota Twins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Olaf & Olga, her 2 sisters, Vivian Zespy & Miranda Smith, her 2 brothers, Harris & Everett Quenrud and her husband of 48 years Mack.
She is survived by her 2 children, Gary (Jennifer) Gillis of Storden, MN, and Vicki (Joe) Neal of Chestertown, MD. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren, Dr. James Soha, Rhinebeck, NY, Shelly (Greg) Edwards, Chestertown, MD, Meredith (Tim) Grussing, Church Hill, MD, Lisa Dixon, Chestertown, MD, Sandy (Rick) Espey, BelAir, MD, Heather (Ken) Thiesen, Becker, MN, Janelle Gillis, Otsego, MN, Mandey (Mark) Fabian, Maple Grove, MN. She was also blessed with 14 great grandchildren!
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Aprl 29, 2010 in the United Lutheran Church Chapel (lower level), 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church.
Burial to follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
