Robert J. Greenwood, age 90 of Menomonie, WI formerly of East Grand Forks, MN died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
He was born November 1, 1919 to John and Rose (Roberts) Greenwood. He grew up on a farm in East Grand Forks, MN and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School.
On August 21, 1940 Robert married LaVern Genereau and together they had seven children. He was a truck driver for many years and later worked for the City of East Grand Forks, retiring June 1, 1985. Robert was a proud W.W.II veteran. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3817 in East Grand Forks where he served two terms as Post Commander and also served as Funeral Chaplain and Gaming Manager. In 1997, he moved to Menomonie to be near his family.
Robert is survived by his seven children, Robert (Yolanda) of San Jacinto, CA, Alane (Donald) Wick of Eau Claire, Cindy Lupien of Grand Forks, ND, Nancy Duray of Menomonie, Debra (Charles) Vind of Hayward, Ricky (Kim) of Elk Mound and Bruce (Jill) of Menomonie. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife LaVern, two brothers, René and William.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2010 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Menomonie, with Father Tom Krieg officiating.
There will be visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Military Honors provided by Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard.
