Irving Marvin Monson, 88, of Leonard, MN, died on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at his home.
He was born November 24, 1921 in Dudley Township, MN the son of Andrew and Minnie (Evenson) Monson. He attended Leonard grade school and graduated from Clearbrook High School in 1938. He worked in carpentry and construction from 1938 - 1943 and 1946 - 1965, including helping to build the Garrison Dam in North Dakota, Grand Forks Air Force Base, Sugar beet plant in Crookston and various other construction projects around Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and California. He entered the US Navy in April of 1944 and was honorably discharged in March of 1946.
He married Anna Johnson on June 12th, 1950 in Euclid, MN. Together they owned and operated the Monson Oil Company in Leonard, MN from 1965 until 2006. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Leonard. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 256 of Clearbrook for 60 continuous years. He enjoyed being with his family, working alongside his wife, hunting, fishing, farming and carpentry work. He will be missed for his faith, love of family, outlook on life, handshakes, sense of humor, practical jokes, storytelling and shaking for coffee.
He is survived by his Daughter-Terry (Steve) Fisher of Bemidji, MN, his 4 Sons - Michael (Gayle) Monson of Fort Atkinson, WI, Ronald (Judy) Monson of Perham, MN, Martin Monson of Waseca, MN, Sheldon (Sharin) Monson of Wadena, MN and 17 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anna and 2 grandsons David and Dylan Monson.
Active Casketbearers will be his grandchildren.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Nickole Walters, Eric Walters, Warren Lundmark, Kimberly Lundmark, David Rongstad, Harvey Miller, Daryl "Bucky" Hinrichs and James Chesley.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Leonard, MN with Rev. Bob Kirchman officiating.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be at East Zion Cemetery in Leonard, MN.
