Alvida Anderson

Alvida Anderson, age 85, resident of West Fargo, ND, formerly of Edmore, ND, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 in the MeritCare Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, ND.

Alvida Elshaug was born October 16, 1924 in Newland Township, near Edmore, the daughter of Nels and Nora (Biri) Elshaug. She was raised and attended school in Edmore. Alvida married Lloyd M. Anderson on July 17, 1949 in Crookston, MN. They farmed in the Edmore area. She was a member of the St. Hans Lutheran Church until 1986 when it was destroyed by fire. She then became a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Edmore. She was a member of the A.L.C.W. for many years. Alvida spent most of her years as a farm wife. She loved to cook for the harvesters that worked the fields. She loved having a garden and her basement shelves were always beautifully decorated with several jars of canned vegetables and fruits. She also loved to bake and was known for her homemade potato salad, homemade buns, and lefsa. She had great pride in her home and farmyard, a place she always loved to be. The greatest joy in her life was her 5 grandchildren. She was always busy sewing blankets and making pillows for them. Lloyd passed away on June 5, 1994. Alvida continued living on the farm with her son Paul. In 2006 she moved in with her daughter Audrey in West Fargo. It was there that she spent the remainder of her years under the loving care of her family.

Alvida will be deeply missed by her 2 daughters, Pauline and her husband Keith Mack of Langdon, ND, and Audrey and her husband Mark Erickson of West Fargo, ND; 5 beautiful granddaughters, Rachelle (Nic) Fetsch, Sarah (Josh) Overby, and Breanna Mack, all of Langdon, and Morgan and Ava Erickson of West Fargo; and 1 sister, Selma Connolly of Grants Pass, OR.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Paul Anderson in 2008; 3 brothers, Norris, John, and Florn; and 4 sisters, Elda, Marion, Ruth, and Lorraine.

The Funeral Service for Alvida will be held at the Concordia Lutheran Church, Edmore, ND, on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will be in the St. Hans Lutheran Cemetery, rural Edmore.

May God's comfort and promise be with the family. Alvida was not only a great mom, but also a great aunt and sister in law to my dad. She kept our family well fed when we visited. I'll always remember her buns and bread, along with her red vinyl chairs. She taught my sister and I how to dry dishes properly. Alvida was fussy, which was good as the job got done correctly. She has a strong norweign accent and it was fun to talk to her. "Tell me now", she would say. Ok Alvida, I will tell you now, it was I who put the little flowers on your red vinyl chairs.. However, it got you a new dining set. Will miss you. Jeanne Anderson Bird, niece.
