Darlene Joyce Tollefson, 77, of Crookston, Minnesota, died peacefully at RiverView Hospital on Thursday, April 8, 2010, surrounded by her family.
Darlene was born in Crookston on December 31, 1932, the daughter of Harold and Neva (Reese) Olson. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, Hercules and Mildred Boelter, and graduated from Fertile High School in 1950. On June 12, 1951, Darlene was united in marriage to Russell Tollefson in Fertile, Minnesota. Darlene and Russell lived in Hapeville, Georgia, while Russell was stationed stateside during the Korean conflict, and in 1953, they returned to farm in rural Crookston. Darlene served as a Sunday school teacher for many years at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Beltrami and was involved in several women's groups there. She was a member of the Resurrection Free Lutheran Church in Beltrami. Darlene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for the time she enjoyed spending with her family and her love of quilting and gardening.
Loving family members include her children, Terry (Elizabeth) Tollefson and Karen (Gerald) DeBoer, all of Crookston, Minn., Rodney (Sylvia) Tollefson of Greenbush, Minn., Todd (Robin) Tollefson, and Mary Munch, all of Beltrami, Minn.; grandchildren, Theodore (Megan) Tollefson, Carrie (Robert) Lovelace, Megan Tollefson, Jay (Heather) DeBoer, Amy (Greg) Wymer, Thomas (Annie) DeBoer, Katie (Eric) Tuchscher, Nathan (Miriam) DeBoer, Mark, Timothy, and Jennifer Tollefson, Gretchen (Lukas) Dziengel, Peter, Bethany, and AnnaMae Tollefson, Caleb (Mary) Munch, Amanda (Cody) May, and Gilbert Munch, great-grandchildren, Stacia, Micah, Joshua, and Heidi DeBoer, Jacob, MacKenzie, Leah, and Benjamin Wymer, Elizabeth Lovelace, James and Kaitlyn DeBoer, and Claire Dziengel, and her sister, Marleone Gunderson of Twin Valley, Minn. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, and her parents, Harold Olson and Neva Purvis.
The Funeral Service for Darlene Tollefson will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, April 12. 2010 at the Resurrection Free Lutheran Church in Beltrami, MN, with Pastor Dale Finstrom, officiating.
Visitation will be on Sunday at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, MN, from 5-7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, and also for an hour before the funeral at the church.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Beltrami.
