Della Jenson

Della Jenson, age 84, of Erskine, MN passed away on Sunday, April 4th at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.

Della Isabel Karel was born on March 18, 1926 in St. Joseph, North Dakota to parents Frank and Margaret Stella (Gorman) Karel. Della grew up on a farm near LeRoy, North Dakota. Her mother passed away when she was around the age of 8 thus she learned at an early age what hard work really was, as she was the only female in the house along with her dad and four brothers. She attended country school through the eighth grade.

Della was united in marriage to Clayton F. Jenson on January 7, 1942 in Duluth, Minnesota. To this union five children were born. Daryl, Dwaine, Ardis, Allen and Curtis. Clayton and Della lived in Duluth for two years, then moved to a farm site near Neche, North Dakota. Clayton was a farmer and in 1952 they moved to Erskine, Minnesota and purchased their farm. Della worked at Johnson Nursing Home in Erskine for eight years, then went to work at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, where she worked for the next 40 years. She retired in January of 2006 at the age of 79 years due to health reasons. Her health continued to decline in the following years and she became a resident of PMCC where she lived at the time of her death.

Della liked working outdoors in the yard and garden and she had a real green thumb with plants and flowers. Della belonged to several homemaker groups and she was a long time member of the United Methodist Church and ladies aid in Erskine.

Della is survived by three children, Dwaine (Geraldine), Allen (Elizabeth), and Curtis (Nancy), all of Erskine; grandchildren, Bernice, Becky, Ryan, Ann, David, Rob, Cam, Jerrod, and Ashley; great grandchildren, Marshall, Madison, Mariah, Blake, Jacob, Josie, Oliver, Kale, and Aylin.

She is also survived by her brother, Lanis (Annabelle) Karel of Detroit Lakes, MN; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton; son, Daryl; daughter, Ardis Thompson; her parents; and brothers, Willmar, Nick, and Lloyd.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (April 9th) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Sarah Lawton officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (April 8th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Erskine.
