Robert L. Fincher, 76 of East Grand Forks, MN passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at his home.

Robert Louis Fincher was born on March 15, 1934 in San Francisco, CA, the son of Orville Day and Marie Antonette (Dubois) Fincher. Roberts father and brother were killed in an auto accident and severely crippled his mother on March 23, 1942. He was placed in the Lena Pope orphanage in Fort Worth, TX. Robert attended Arlington High School and the University of Texas on a football scholarship. He graduated with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He liked boxing and fought amateur fights thru high school and college. He served 4 years in the United States Navy. He married Deanna Skipp on March 17, 1956 in Glenview, IL. He worked in Steel Mills in Chicago, IL as a Metallurgist. Robert remarried on May 4, 1963 in Chicago, IL to Dorothy Witek. He started a company ABCO Industries Inc. In 1969 he sold his company and moved his family to Viking, MN. He farmed in Viking and Newfolden area growing wheat and oats. He also had a large hog operation. He sold the farm in 1983 and moved to Grand Forks, ND. He went to Gaming School. He was then hired by Development Homes as a gaming manager. He then was hired by the University of North Dakota Athletic Club. He retired in 1996 and then remarried to Cindy Nickolauson on December 14, 1996 in New York Mills, MN. He moved to East Grand Forks, MN and worked part time for the East Grand Forks Holiday Station Store and during the Sugar Beet Harvest. He worked for Express Personal Services as a Staffing Coordinator in the Crookston, MN area. He loved books and reading and writing. He volunteered for years coaching boys & girls in boxing and swimming in the Chicago area and coached boxing for Boxing Inc. in Grand Forks, ND YMCA.

Robert is survived by his children: Michael (Dawn) Fincher and Rhonda Fincher of Rogers, AR, Randy (Lisa) Fincher of East Grand Forks, MN, Cheryl (Joe) McGill of Broken Arrow, OK, Robert (Elizabeth) Fincher of Crookston, MN, Marie Wiley of East Grand Forks, MN and Coquet Fincher of Grand Forks, ND; stepdaughter: Jodi Johnson of Grand Forks, ND and 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Marianne Faver of Fort Worth, TX and Patricia Bolton of Fredrick, MD.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers Dick and Arnold; 3 sisters Cleo, Virginia and Yvonne, 1 niece Judy; 1 great-granddaughter: Kami Jo and his beloved grandson Kendrick Michael Fincher.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND

Visitation: One hour before the funeral at the church.

Military Honors Conducted by: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3817, American Legion Post #157 and the North Dakota National Guard.

Interment: Bethlehem Cemetery of New Solum, rural Newfolden, MN.
