Herman Oliver Gregg, 84, of Red Wing, Minn. died Friday, January 29, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Herman Oliver Gregg, 84, of Red Wing, Minn. died Friday, January 29, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

He was born Oct. 3, 1925 in Blackduck, Minnesota to Herman and Bertha (Lokken) Gregg. Following high school, he enlisted in the US Army and served in General Patton's Third Army during WWII. After he was honorably discharged, he married Alecia Joan "Lee" LaVoie on February 5, 1947 in Duluth, Minn. Together they had six children, and eventually settled in Blackduck, where in 1955, he and a partner started a trucking company.

In 1968 he and his family moved to Crookston, Minn. where he worked for Jiffy Fry Company as general manager. In 1984 he and two sons started Gregg Potato Sales, which he retired from in 1998. His wife Lee died in 1989. Since the early 1990's, he and his companion, Nancy Falls have spent their time between Northern Minnesota, Red Wing and Panama City Beach, Florida. Herman was an avid golfer and had belonged to the Bemidji and Grand Forks Golf Clubs, as well as the Bay Point Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Florida. He was a Life Master Bridge player with memberships in Panama City Beach and Lynn Haven, Florida Duplicate Bridge Clubs as well as the St. Paul and Lake City, Minnesota Duplicate Bridge Clubs. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and all animals-large and small. Always reading or doing a crossword puzzle, Herman will be remembered for his striking sense of humor, his adventurous spirit and his undying optimism.

He is survived by six children, James (Carol) Gregg of Crookston, MN; Virginia (Terry) Lambert of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Mary Carol (Don) Quiram of Andover, MN; Michael (Linda) Gregg and Paul (Cindy) Gregg, both of Crookston, MN; and Betty Jeanne (Curtis) Amundson of East Grand Forks, MN; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his 20 year companion, Nancy Falls of Red Wing, MN and her children, Sara (Alan Ranta) Falls of Red Wing, MN, John (Christina) Falls of San Diego, CA and Bruce (Shelly) Falls of Dove Canyon, CA; 2 sisters, Betty Dudley of Stuart, FL and Sandra (Tom) Kallroos of Fridley, MN and one brother, Robert (Evie) Gregg of Pengilly, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Jim Hanson; his wife, Alecia Joan and 2 grandchildren, John and Gretchen Gregg.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 5, at the Church of St. Joseph, Red Wing, with Father Thomas M. Kommers officiating.

Burial will be at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery in Crookston.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

So Sorry to hear of Herman's passing. You have our families sympathies. It is hard to lose a loved one. I remember the days of Jiffy Fry and all the people involved. Marilyn Hagen(Vern) and family of East Grand Forks, Minn.
