Walter Louis Morgan Jr.
Walter Louis Morgan Jr., 80, a lifelong Crookston, MN resident, died peacefully early Wednesday morning, January 13, 2010, in the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston.
Walter was born in Crookston on February 25, 1929, one of four children of the union of Walter Sr. and Irene (Slyter) Morgan. He attended the Northwest School of Agriculture. He was called to active duty with the U.S. Army in 1950 and went overseas to take part in the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge in 1952, Walter returned home and worked on the farm with his father. On January 11, 1958 Walter was united in marriage to Mae Marie Marcott in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota. Together they made their home on the family farm south of Crookston. Walter and Mae were married for thirty-seven years until her death on December 28, 1995. During their years together, Walter worked for several area farmers. He also worked for American Crystal Sugar Company, B & J Implement and Terra in Crookston. In recent years Walter worked at the Greenview rest area near Fisher, MN, and was in his glory whenever he got the opportunity to drive tractor and work on his own land. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Crookston serving on the Boards of Deacons and Sessions. He was a member of the Masons Lodge #141, Crookston VFW Post #1902 and American Legion Post #20. In recent years, Walter spent several winters driving across the county, mostly to the Mesa Arizona area. He thoroughly enjoyed being a spectator at his grandchildren's activities and always found time to go into town for coffee and chatting with friends. Walt will be remembered for his genuine smile and special brand of humor. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and many friends.
Loving family members include his son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Linda Morgan of Crookston and daughter and son-in-law, Karin and Scott Stinar of Fargo, ND; 3 grandchildren, Laura, Lindsay and Connor Morgan; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to his wife and parents, Walter was preceded in death by sisters Jesse Mae Froyd, Genevieve Ostendorf, and Norma Hoerner. Sadly, Norma passed away only 24 hours prior to Walt. Walter was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law Albert Erdmann, Jack Froyd, William Hoerner and Vernon Ostendorf. Blessed be the memory of Walter Lewis Morgan.
The funeral service for Walter Morgan will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 18, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church in Crookston, with the Rev. Daniel Wolpert officiating.
Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 5-7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Masonic service.
Interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston with Military Honors provided by the Crookston Veterans Council.
