Blanche Lucile Brown, 84, of Des Moines, Iowa, and a former longtime resident of Crookston, Minnesota, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, December 31, 2009, at the Trinity Center in Des Moines.
Blanche was born at Owatonna, Minnesota, in Steele County, on September 25, 1925, and was one of five children of the union of Edwin and Sedate (Johnson) Hanson. As a child she moved with her family to rural Mentor, Minnesota, where her father farmed in Grove Park Township.
Blanche attended Mentor Public School until her education was cut short due to illness. On March 29, 1945 she was united in marriage to Clarence A. Brown at Erskine, Minnesota. The couple moved to Crookston in 1952 and together raised five very active boys- Roger, Stanley, Douglas, Russell, and Robert. Throughout her life Blanche proudly carried her role as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. Sadly, Clarence passed away on August 8, 1984. In 2003 Blanche moved to Des Moines, where she became a resident of the Trinity Center at Luther Park.
Loving family include her five sons, Roger of Owatonna, MN, Stanley (Mary Terway) of Avon, MN, Douglas of Crookston, MN, Russell (Linda) of Nielsville, MN, and Robert (Trisha) of Des Moines, IA; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Blanche also leaves a brother, Reuben (Elda) Hanson of Fosston, MN; two sisters, Ruby Kinser and Byrde Ireland, both of Griswold, IA; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to her late husband, Clarence, Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Sedate; grandson, Mathew Brown; sister, Virginia Fuller; and nephews, Vernon Ireland and Ed Fuller. May God bless Blanche's memory.
The funeral service for Blanche Brown will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2010, at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, Minnesota with The Rev. Jo Gast, officiating.
Visitation will be the funeral home for one hour before the funeral.
Interment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mentor, Minnesota, in the spring.
