Ralph “Swede” Hangsleben, 78, of East Grand Forks, MN died on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Ralph Adolph Hangsleben was born on February 12, 1931 in Eagle Lake, MN, the son of William and Agusta (Kopecsky) Hangsleben.

Ralph grew up in the Warren Minnesota area and in 1952 he joined the United States Marine Corps and served our country until 1954. On April 7, 1956 he was united in marriage to Barbara Enright in Grand Forks, ND. Ralph farmed in the East Grand Forks, MN area until 1980 and also worked for American Crystal Sugar Company in East Grand Forks, MN. Ralph worked commercial construction until his retirement in 1996.

Family members who survive Swede include his wife; two daughters: Stacy Hangsleben (Jerry Bailey) of Fisher, MN, Dawn (Kurt) Farris of Omaha, NE, two grandchildren: David and Alexis Farris; brother: Alfred (Vivian) Hangsleben of Warroad, MN and one sister Elsie (Olaf) Hegland of Seattle, WA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Proceeding Ralph in death is his parents; son Jay Hangsleben on October 6, 2006, brothers: Ardell, Walter, Gust, Earl, William, Alfred, Oscar and Ernie Hangsleben and one sister: Lorraine.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 in Stennes Funeral Home of East Grand Forks, MN.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery ~ Grand Forks, North Dakota.

We were so sorry to hear of Swede's passing. WE have many happy memories of Swede and he will be missed. Our sympathies go out to the family and Barb. We wish we could be thier for you but we are in Az. until Dec. 3. Sincerely, Marilyn Hagen and Robert Useldinger Sr.
