Helga Hostrup, 82, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock on Friday, October 30th, 2009.
Helga Sophie Haugen was born at Pelan, Minnesota May 20, 1927, the daughter of Henry and Hilda (Mathisen) Haugen. She grew up in Pelan and attended school there through the 9th grade. On November 24, 1946 she married Carl Hostrup at International Falls, Minnesota.
They lived there for one year before moving to a farm near Lancaster, where her son, Donald and grandson, Daniel farm now. She worked at the Kittson Memorial Nursing Home for a number of years before retiring to be home with Carl. Helga enjoyed working of the farm with Carl and gardening. She loved having the grandkids over and enjoyed traveling with her daughters and granddaughters.
After Carl’s passing in June of 1988, she moved from the farm to Lake Bronson, Minnesota. She lived there for a few years before moving to Oakwood Homes in Karlstad, Minnesota. Helga spent three months at the Meadows in Karlstad before becoming a resident at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center.
Left to mourn her are two daughters, Jo Ann Winger, Lancaster, MN and Susan (Roger) Howell, Seattle; a son, Donald (Janelle) Hostrup, Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Julie (Robert) Peterson, Lancaster, Kimberly (Greg) Hemmes, Kennedy, MN, Jeremy (Jen) Hostrup, Moorhead, MN, Daniel Hostrup, Lancaster, Jennifer Hostrup, Lancaster, Natalie Rojah, Seattle, WA and Jason Howell, Seattle; six great grandchildren, Beca, Jonathan, Alex, Stephanie, Michael, and Bailie.
Helga will be greatly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; sisters, Selma, Ranghild, Julia, Bertha, Edna and Myrtle; and brothers, Olaf, Julius and Alfred. Helga’s family would like to give a special “Thanks” to the staff at Kittson Memorial Nursing Home for the excellent care she received.
Funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lancaster Covenant Church.
Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Garden Cemetery, Lancaster.
Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
The Austin-Hughes Funeral Home of Hallock is in charge of arrangements.
