Gordon 'Gordie' Alfred Langlie

Gordon 'Gordie' Alfred Langlie passed away on October 5, 2009 at the LifeCare Roseau Manor at the age of 89.

Gordon was born on July 10, 1920 in Plummer, MN to Bergit (Hemmestvedt) and Ole Langlie. He graduated from Pershing High School in Plummer in 1938. He owned a grocery store in Shelly, MN for two years before entering the U.S. Army in October of 1942.

He served during WWII in England and Germany, until his honorable discharge in November of 1945. He and Lola Sandstrom were married on September 21, 1948. They lived in Bemidji, MN for a year and then to Roseau, MN in 1949 to purchase a grocery store, Gordie's Hartz. He owned and operated that for many years, changing to Langlie's SuperValu, which he ran with his son, Kent for nearly 30 years. He enjoyed his work and visiting with customers.

Gordie loved all types of sports (especially hockey) and supporting many community events. He enjoyed reading, keeping up with current events, bridge club, and traveling. He was a member of the Hartz Board of Directors; the Messiah Lutheran Church and church council; the American Legion and V.F.W. and Lions Club; and enjoyed going to the North Dakota Retail Food Association events.

He is survived by his children, Barb (Duane) Erickson of Roseau and Kent (Kim) Langlie of Roseau; grandchildren, Kim (Ryan) Jaenicke, Charlotte (Cory) Ascheman, Joe Erickson, Tina (Erik) Fabian and Katie Langlie; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Owen Jaenicke, Wyatt Ascheman and Alexis Fabian; and brother, Ed (Ardith) Langlie of Thief River Falls, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lola in 2002; step-daughter, Beverly Cummings; sisters, Thelma Bjorkman and Bergliot Langlie; brothers, Helmer "Tuss" and Alfred Langlie.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 9th at 11 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Roseau.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. with a 7:00 prayer service at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.

Interment will be at the Hope Cemetery. Military rites by the Roseau Memorial Honor Guard.
