Douglas E. Teigland, 83, of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2009, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Douglas Eugene Teigland was born on February 17, 1926 in Grygla, MN, the son of Mikkal and Mary "Mae" (Smith) Teigland. Douglas grew up in Grygla and Dawson, MN and then in 1941 he moved to Waukegan, IL. In 1946 he moved to Bemidji, MN and began farming. In 1953 he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Panama. Following his discharge in 1956 he moved to East Grand Forks, MN. On July 24, 1959 he was united in marriage to Adeline Mattson at Mendenhall Presbyterian Church in East Grand Forks, MN. He worked as a Mechanic in a small engine repair shop in East Grand Forks. In 1974 he began employment at American Crystal Sugar Company in East Grand Forks, MN and worked as a mechanic there until his retirement in 1990.

Douglas truly enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing cards and telling stories.

Douglas is survived by his wife Adeline of East Grand Forks, MN; children: Roy (Karlin) Teigland of Savage, MN, Cindy (Gary) Vanyo of Bemidji, MN and Lori (Todd) Bethke of Bloomington, MN; grandchildren: Sarah, Drew, Michelle, Matthew and Amy; and one sister, Edna Brooks, of Tucson, AZ.

Douglas is preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters: Ardith Kluzak and Phyllis Tollefson.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 5, 2009 in Mendenhall Presbyterian Church, 528 10th St. NW, East Grand Forks, MN.

Visitation: One hour before Funeral Service in Mendenhall Presbyterian Church

Interment: Resurrection Cemetery ~ East Grand Forks, MN.

Military Honors Conducted by: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3817, American Legion Post #157 and the North Dakota National Guard
